Brunet Method™ / Reconsolidation Therapy™

The Brunet Method™, also known as Reconsolidation Therapy™, is an innovative approach based on recent discoveries in neuroscience. It helps reduce the emotional impact of traumatic memories by modifying their affective charge through a natural brain process: memory reconsolidation.

How does this therapy work?

When a memory is reactivated, it enters a reconsolidation window, during which it becomes temporarily malleable. By combining this reactivation with the administration of a beta-blocker (usually propranolol), it is possible to reduce the emotional charge associated with the memory while preserving the event itself.

This method is particularly effective for individuals suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), anxiety related to a past event, phobias, or persistent trauma.

Session Process

The therapy takes place over five to six sessions, approximately one week apart. Each session follows a structured protocol:

  1. First Session – Assessment and Explanation

    • The therapist evaluates the patient's symptoms and the impact of trauma on daily life.

    • The method is explained, and eligibility is determined.

    • If everything is in order, a doctor prescribes propranolol.

  2. Beta-blocker (propranolol) intake

    • About one hour before the session, the patient takes the prescribed dose of propranolol.

    • This medication reduces the physiological stress response without erasing the memory.

  3. Writing the traumatic memory

    • Under the medication's effect, the patient writes their traumatic memory in the present tense, detailing the emotions, sensations, and thoughts experienced at that moment.

  4. Reading the memory aloud

    • The patient then reads their story aloud, reactivating the memory in a modified state due to the medication.

    • This step is crucial for reconsolidating the memory in a less distressing form.

  5. Repeating the process over several sessions

    • During each session, the patient rereads their story, sometimes making adjustments.

    • Gradually, the emotional intensity decreases, and the event becomes less overwhelming.

What are the benefits of this therapy?

✔ Reduced emotional intensity of traumatic memories
✔ Decreased symptoms of post-traumatic stress (anxiety, flashbacks, nightmares, avoidance, etc.)
✔ Improved general well-being and sense of inner security
✔ A brief, targeted approach with lasting effects
✔ A non-invasive method that does not require reliving the trauma intensely

The Brunet Method™ is a major breakthrough in trauma treatment, offering long-term relief to individuals suffering from painful memories.
